Bauer started the match against the Nippon Ham Fighters held at Yokohama Stadium in Kanagawa Prefecture, Japan on the 14th and recorded a complete win with 3 hits (1 home run), 12 strikeouts, 1 walk and 1 run in 9 innings. Yokohama won 2-1.

Bauer, who was active as a special ace in the major leagues and won the National League Cy Young Award in 2020, was unable to participate in the game in July 2021 due to suspicions of sexual violence, and was virtually expelled from the major leagues last winter. Bauer entered the Japanese professional baseball by signing a contract with Yokohama for 3 million dollars (approximately 3.8 billion won) this season.

Bauer, who pitched sluggishly with 7 runs in 2 games in a row at the beginning of the season and went down to the 2nd team, continues to pitch well after his return. He won a complete game against Nippon Ham, and his season record is 4 wins and 2 losses in 7 games (45 innings) with an earned run average of 4.00.

Japanese media Full Count said, “Bauer played an active part in his first complete game in his Japanese debut and harvested 4 wins in the season. It’s the first time since June 17, 2019, that Bauer pitched nine complete innings. He hit a solo home run in the 7th inning and hit a home run in 7 consecutive games, but only allowed this one run.”

Bauer, who expressed satisfaction with the pitching that day, said, “Good!” I am satisfied that I was able to complete this time. Until episode 6, for some reason, my body didn’t heat up. As I slowly found my pace, I was most energized because the fans cheered me on in the last inning.”

Regarding the record for the most strikeouts (12) in a game since his Japanese debut, Bauer joked and laughed, saying, “I was 15 short of the goal.” It means that he wants to strike out all 27 outs.

Meanwhile, Takayuki Kato, who faced Bauer as a starting pitcher, suffered a complete loss with 7 hits, 4 strikeouts and 2 runs in 8 innings. The game ended in 2 hours and 8 minutes with the starting pitchers of both teams having a pitching match.
