MLB Baltimore, fall baseball for the first time in 7 years… Tampa Bay advances to PS for 5 consecutive years

In the American League (AL) of the Major League Baseball (MLB), the Baltimore Orioles and Tampa Bay Rays of the Eastern Division both confirmed their advancement to the postseason (PS).

Baltimore won 5-4 after a close game in the 11th overtime against Tampa Bay in a home game held at Oriole Park in Baltimore, Maryland, USA on the 18th (Korean time).

Baltimore, first place in the AL East Division, recorded 93 wins, 56 losses, and a winning percentage of 0.624, securing at least a wild card ticket regardless of the results of the remaining games.

This is the first time in seven years since 2016 that Baltimore, which belongs to the AL East Division full of strong teams, is participating in fall baseball.

Baltimore, which was ranked last in the district for three consecutive years from 2017 to 2019, recorded 52 wins, 110 losses, and a winning percentage of 0.321 in 2021, ranking last in the league.

However, based on an excellent minor league system, they succeeded in rebuilding the team in just two years.

Baltimore ranked fourth in the district last year, but surpassed .500 with a winning percentage of 83 wins and 79 losses, and finally jumped to first place in the district this season.

Tampa Bay (92 wins, 59 losses, winning percentage 0.609), ranked second in the district, two games behind Baltimore, lost that day, but secured a wild card ticket as the Texas Rangers lost.

Tampa Bay succeeded in advancing to the postseason for the fifth consecutive year despite ace Shane McClanahan leaving the team last month due to an elbow injury and starting shortstop Wander Franco being disciplined for having an inappropriate relationship with a minor.스포츠토토
